The leadership of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) received an audience with honorary teachers from the Forum Advokasi Guru Non-ASN Sekolah Negeri (Fagri) at the parliament complex in Jakarta on Wednesday. The teachers sought certainty regarding their employment status for 2027.

The audience was held in light of the government’s policy on the restructuring of honorary workers, which is set to conclude on 31 December 2026.

The meeting was led by two Deputy Speakers of the House, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad and Saan Mustopa. During the session, Fagri Chairman Ahmad Farwiz Nasution urged the House to push for clarity on the fate of honorary teachers before 2027.

“Alhamdulillah, we were well received by the House leadership, Prof. Sufmi Dasco and Mr Saan Mustopa, who provided substantial input and discussion,” Ahmad said after the meeting.

According to him, the House expressed its commitment to help resolve the issue of honorary teachers’ fate following the issuance of Circular Letter Number 7 of 2026 from the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education concerning the assignment of non-civil servant teachers in educational units organised by regional governments in 2026.

“The 2024 cut-off currently totals 172,323 non-civil servant teachers,” he said.

Ahmad expressed hope that the audience with the House would produce conclusions that make the future and careers of honorary teachers clearer.

Meanwhile, Fagri Deputy Chairman Amiruddin said the audience was held because the forum questioned the clarity of honorary teachers’ status after the House and the government previously announced a policy to improve employment status for teachers with part-time and full-time Government Employee with Work Agreement (P3K) status.

In that announcement, he said, the clarity of status for honorary teachers was not addressed by either the House or the government. He therefore hoped the House would be able to ensure status certainty.

“We were given certainty only until 31 December 2026. We have been waiting for news of certainty for us. However, when it was widely reported in the media in recent weeks, there was only news about part-time P3K and full-time P3K,” Amiruddin said.
