The Deputy Chairman of Commission I of the House of Representatives (DPR), Sukamta, has called on President Prabowo Subianto to push for an immediate cessation of all forms of violence and to ensure maximum protection for Palestinian civilians.

Sukamta made the appeal following President Prabowo’s departure to Washington DC, United States, to attend the inaugural meeting of the Board of Peace (BoP) on 19 February 2026.

Sukamta said that stability and security are the primary prerequisites for a sustainable peace process for the people of Gaza, Palestine.

“The government can seize this momentum to reaffirm Indonesia’s position as a nation that consistently champions peace, justice, and humanity,” Sukamta said in Jakarta on Monday, 16 February 2026.

The PKS politician also urged the government to reaffirm Indonesia’s support for full Palestinian independence through a two-state solution that is just, dignified, and in accordance with international law. The forum must serve as a space to strengthen that commitment.

He further stated that Indonesia needs to ensure that every post-conflict reconstruction and recovery agenda proceeds in tandem with respect for the rights of the Palestinian people and the principle of sovereignty. Lasting peace must be built upon justice, not merely a temporary cessation of conflict.

He emphasised that President Prabowo Subianto’s presence at the Board of Peace forum should be seen as an opportunity to strengthen Indonesia’s active role in advancing world peace, in line with the constitutional mandate.

“Every step of our diplomacy must be grounded in Indonesia’s national interests whilst remaining consistent with our historical commitment to the struggle for Palestinian independence,” he said.

Indonesia’s participation in the forum, he said, is part of its active diplomacy and a tangible contribution to creating a more stable and just world order.

“From the perspective of national interests, global stability based on international law also has a direct impact on Indonesia’s own security and interests,” he said.

President Prabowo Subianto embarked on a working visit to Washington DC, United States. The Head of State and a limited delegation departed from the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in Jakarta on Monday, 16 February 2026.

During the visit to the United States, President Prabowo was accompanied by Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
