The Central Advisory Council of the Prosperous Justice Party (MPP PKS) has urged the House of Representatives (DPR) to exercise its oversight function over Indonesia’s involvement in the Gaza Board of Peace (BoP) and the planned deployment of Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) personnel as part of the International Stabilisation Force (ISF).

MPP PKS Chairman Mulyanto said the DPR’s role in this involvement is vital, as policies pursued by the government are susceptible to exploitation by foreign interests. He emphasised that the planned deployment of TNI personnel is not an administrative decision but a political decision of the state.

“The Constitution and the TNI Law mandate the existence of checks and balances mechanisms,” Mulyanto said in a written statement on Monday, 23 February 2026.

Under this mandate, he continued, the President cannot act unilaterally without democratic control from parliament. Moreover, the policies signed off by Prabowo concern national sovereignty and the safety of TNI personnel.

Mulyanto added that the DPR also needs to oversee budget allocations for BoP contributions. The DPR must be bold enough to push the government for transparency — including the amount of costs involved, which budget lines the funds are drawn from, and how long the funding will be committed. “The public has the right to know this,” he said.

Mulyanto also invoked the preamble of the Constitution, which affirms Indonesia’s commitment to opposing all forms of colonialism. Accordingly, all foreign policy decisions, particularly those concerning Palestine, must side with independence and justice, rather than potentially legitimising modern colonial practices.

“The DPR must also seek clarity on legitimacy from the Palestinian side regarding this policy,” he said.

The government plans to send TNI personnel to Gaza after Indonesia joined the ISF in November last year. The ISF was designed by the United States and adopted as a United Nations Security Council Resolution. Indonesia is one of the first five BoP countries set to deploy its troops to Gaza.

The Civil Society Coalition for Security Sector Reform has urged Indonesia to withdraw its membership from the Board of Peace. Coalition member and Director of Democratic Judicial Reform (De Jure) Bhatara Ibnu Reza said that Israel’s involvement would only further complicate Indonesia’s foreign policy and its participation in resolving the conflict in Palestine.

“Indonesia’s potential membership in the BoP would instead be used as legitimacy to sanction all of Israel’s actions against Palestine,” he said in an official statement on Monday, 16 February 2026.
