Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) Sufmi Dasco Ahmad has said that parliament is currently in the process of receiving public input on the Domestic Workers Protection Bill (RUU PPRT). Dasco stated that from 5 March 2026, the public participation process would be conducted more intensively.

“The Domestic Workers Protection Bill has previously entered the stage of receiving public participation, and this will continue,” Dasco told reporters on Monday (23/2/2026).

Dasco said the DPR had held discussions with the President of the Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPI), Said Iqbal, including during last year’s May Day commemoration. He said those discussions yielded various suggestions emphasising the need for stronger protections for domestic workers.

“During last year’s May Day, we frequently discussed with Mr Said Iqbal from KSPI, from which we received input that the legislation should place greater emphasis on the protection of domestic workers. That is what is now being developed,” he said.

Dasco said his side would begin conducting more intensive public participation from 5 March, continuing through to the formal deliberation stage.

“God willing, from 5 March the public participation process will continue to be carried out, right through to the deliberations until completion,” he explained.

According to him, the Domestic Workers Protection Bill encompasses various aspects that require thorough examination. He therefore considers the drafting process must be carried out with great care.

“I believe that because the Domestic Workers Protection Act also covers various aspects that must be attended to, public participation must be extensive, followed by in-depth review and careful deliberation,” he said.
