Jakarta, VIVA – Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) Sufmi Dasco Ahmad has spoken out regarding viral reports on social media that hundreds of workers at the company producing Mie Sedaap instant noodles were furloughed ahead of Ramadan.

Dasco said his office had received grievances from a number of Mie Sedaap workers and had subsequently coordinated further with the company.

“The DPR RI has received the grievances from Mie Sedaap workers and we have already coordinated with the Mie Sedaap management,” Dasco told reporters on Monday, 23 February 2026.

Dasco explained that the Mie Sedaap company had pledged not to carry out any further terminations or furloughs of its employees.

“The outcome is that Mie Sedaap will immediately stop the layoffs that have occurred and the company has also promised there will be no more redundancies at Mie Sedaap,” he said.

According to Dasco, layoff policies should not be implemented, particularly in the lead-up to Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr.

Instead, Dasco argued that workers should be able to work calmly and comfortably during the holy month, rather than being haunted by anxiety over potential redundancies.

“I believe the commitment from Mie Sedaap is sufficient. We have already coordinated and I think the workers can return to work with peace of mind so that we can all fast in tranquillity and face Eid with calm,” Dasco concluded.
