Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Deputy Chairman of Commission XI of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) from the PDI Perjuangan faction, Dolfie Othniel Frederic Palit, has requested data on citizens’ income from the Director General of Taxes, Bimo Wijayanto. The request relates to the condition of public purchasing power, which is still considered positive.

According to him, the Minister of Finance does not use data on people’s income conditions, but instead uses automotive sales data. “For the Director General of Taxes, I will ask for this in writing, Mr Bimo, and if possible, it can also be presented during the Financial Note. So far, we do not have data on people’s income. The Minister of Finance, when presenting, always shows high purchasing power, the indicator being how many motorcycles are sold, how many cars are sold, never showing the income clustering of the Indonesian people,” Dolfie said during a hearing with six Directors General of the Ministry of Finance on Monday (15/6/2026).

Dolfie continued that the Directorate General of Taxes should be able to show data on people with incomes ranging from Rp5 million to more than Rp10 million. In addition, data on tax-compliant citizens also needs to be opened transparently. “I think the tax office has the data. So, how many people have an income of Rp5 million, how many have Rp10 million, show it, Mr Bimo, also the number of people who are compliant in paying taxes, that can be illustrated,” Dolfie continued.

He also touched on the use of gross national income (GNI) per capita data, which has always been a benchmark for people’s income, and is now considered less relevant because it does not reflect the reality of Indonesian people’s income. “If we use GNI as a benchmark, the 2026 average is 8 million per month, 2027 is also an average of 8 million per month, where is the rapid prosperity? Especially if we consider GNI with the contribution of the top 20 percent, middle 40 percent, and lower 40 percent, where is the rapid prosperity if it’s Rp8 million per month in 2026. GNI per capita, if we calculate it monthly, every Indonesian resident gets 8 million per month in 2026, unchanged in 2027,” he explained.

He then asked the Director General of Taxes to consider the amount of income received by the Indonesian people, which can also be seen from how many people pay taxes. “So this is necessary, Mr Bimo, to be submitted in writing later. Also, during the Financial Note, there should be data, so we can measure from year to year, whether more people are paying Income Tax (PPh) above the previous figure,” Dolfie concluded.
