House of Representatives Requests Suspension of Detention for Amsal Sitepu, Commission III Acts as Guarantor
Jakarta - Commission III Chairman of the House of Representatives, Habiburokhman, stated that his side has requested the suspension of detention for videographer Amsal Christy Sitepu, who is detained in connection with a project to produce village profile videos in Karo Regency, North Sumatra.
Habiburokhman conveyed this request after the House of Representatives heard complaints and injustices experienced by Amsal via Zoom on Monday (30/3/2026).
“Commission III of the House of Representatives requests that Mr Amsal Christy Sitepu be granted a suspension of detention with Commission III of the House of Representatives as guarantor,” said Habiburokhman during a press conference at the House of Representatives building in Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday.
Habiburokhman reminded law enforcement officials to prioritise substantive justice over mere formalistic legal certainty, as stipulated in Article 53 paragraph 2 of the new Criminal Code.
“This includes from the initial creative idea or concept, editing work, video cutting, voice dubbing, which are creative works that cannot be unilaterally valued at Rp 0,” he stressed.
Therefore, said Habiburokhman, Commission III of the House of Representatives asks law enforcement to consider that the court’s decision should not set a counterproductive precedent for the creative industry climate in Indonesia.
He also called on the panel of judges handling Amsal Sitepu’s case to consider an acquittal or at least a light sentence.
The alleged corruption case ensnaring the videographer from North Sumatra, Amsal Christy Sitepu, has drawn public attention.
The case originated from a project to produce village profile videos in Karo Regency, which led to legal proceedings.
Amsal, who serves as Director of CV Promiseland, is now facing a two-year prison demand.
The case began during the 2020 to 2022 budget period, when Amsal offered video production services to several village governments in Karo Regency.
In the proposal, the cost for producing the video was set at around Rp 30 million per village.
