House of Representatives Officially Approves Inspector General Suyudi as New National Police Chief
The 8th plenary session of the first session period 2026-2027 officially approved the name of Inspector General Pol Suyudi Ario Seto as the new National Police Chief, replacing Listyo Sigit Prabowo, on Thursday (1/10).
The ratification meeting was held immediately after Commission III conducted a brief fit and proper test, lasting approximately 30 minutes, to approve Suyudi as the sole candidate.
The plenary session was presided over by the Speaker of the House, Puan Maharani, with 383 members of parliament in attendance.
“Next, we request approval for the appointment of Inspector General Suyudi Ario Seto as the National Police Chief; may this be approved?” Puan asked the members of parliament, who responded immediately with approval.
Puan then struck the gavel to signify the official ratification of Inspector General Suyudi as the National Police Chief, replacing Listyo Sigit Prabowo.
The fit and proper test for the National Police Chief candidate referred to Presidential Letter Number R57/Pres/09/2026, dated 30 September 2026.
Following the ratification in the plenary session, Suyudi’s name will subsequently be inaugurated by President Prabowo Subianto alongside a cabinet reshuffle scheduled for this afternoon.
Suyudi has served as the Head of the National Narcotics Board (BNN) since August 2025. He previously held positions as the Banten Regional Police Chief and Deputy Chief of the Metro Jaya Regional Police.
