House of Representatives: Ministry of Defence Budget Increases to Rp189 Trillion

The Chairman of Commission I of the House of Representatives (DPR RI), Utut Adianto, revealed that the budget for the Ministry of Defence (Kemhan) for 2027 has been set to increase to Rp189 trillion. Previously, he stated that the indicative budget ceiling for the Ministry of Defence for 2027 was Rp139 trillion. Consequently, he noted, there is a budget increase of approximately Rp50 trillion.

“We have just conducted a working meeting, attended by the Minister of Defence, the Deputy Commander of the TNI, the Chiefs of Staff, the Deputy Minister of Defence, and the entire Ministry of Defence apparatus. Essentially, for the 2027 State Budget, the Ministry of Defence budget is Rp189 trillion,” said Utut following a closed-door meeting with the Ministry of Defence officials at the parliamentary complex, Jakarta, on Monday (31/8/2026).

In addition to budget discussions, he also conveyed that the closed-door meeting with the Ministry of Defence addressed issues regarding forest and land fires (karhutla) and post-earthquake handling in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). He expressed his appreciation for the TNI soldiers who acted swiftly in addressing these problems. According to Utut, all parties must work together in a spirit of mutual cooperation.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Defence, Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, stated that the budget allocated to the Ministry of Defence and the TNI will be utilised to its maximum potential. According to him, the dynamics of the tasks faced by the troops remain quite significant.

He expressed confidence that the state would meet the budgetary needs of the Ministry of Defence and the TNI in order to carry out national defence system duties, which are currently influenced by situations such as forest fires and natural disasters. He added that the allocated budget has been distributed to every organisational unit, ranging from the Ministry of Defence, TNI Headquarters, the Army, the Navy, and the Air Force.

“We also continue to pay attention to the tasks assigned by the state in order to secure the strategic development transformation currently underway,” said Sjafrie.
