House of Representatives' Legislative Body confident One Data Indonesia Bill will resolve data chaos in social welfare and BPJS services
Jakarta, Kompas.com - The House of Representatives’ Legislative Body (Baleg) is confident that the One Data Indonesia Bill will resolve data misalignment, which has long caused chaos in social welfare Distribution and BPJS services. Deputy Chairman Ahmad Doli Kurnia stated that un-integrated data has been a persistent obstacle in public service programmes for decades. ‘A concrete example is during disaster response, when social assistance from the public often encounters issues, with some people feeling entitled but not receiving their benefits,’ he said in a written statement on Thursday (28 June 2026). Doli, a Golkar leader, added that the bill would establish an integrated population database. ‘With the One Data Indonesia Bill, we will have a fully integrated and systematic population database,’ he continued. Similarly, Baleg member Firman Soebagyo highlighted local governments’ struggles with social welfare programmes due to invalid and unsynchronised data between central and regional levels. ’ They face challenges when implementing social welfare programmes because of data discrepancies,’ Firman said. ‘Often, central and local data differ, leading to mis-targeted assistance as data across regions operates in silos without a national system.’ ‘Once data is standardised, mis targeting will no longer occur, ensuring those entitled receive their benefits,’ he added. Previously, Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad stated that the bill aims to harmonise data across ministries and agencies, which currently often conflict in practice. ‘This data discrepancy is evident during disaster management, including aid Distribution to affected communities,’ Dasco said. ‘Social welfare funds and BPJS also suffer from such inconsistencies, which we aim to resolve through a single data system to prevent future confusion and improve on-ground operations,’ he concluded.
