House of Representatives Highlights MIND ID's Contribution to the State, Cites Private Sector Profits
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Commission XII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) has highlighted the contribution of the Indonesian Mining Industry Holding (MIND ID) to the state. The management of mineral wealth is considered to need clearer benefits through state revenue, job creation and the strengthening of national industry.
Yulian Gunhar, a member of Commission XII of the DPR RI, said the establishment of MIND ID was from the outset directed at transforming mineral management from mere exploitation into the strengthening of national industry. According to him, the management of natural resources must generate added value, ultimately leading to the people’s prosperity.
“That the state controls natural resources, processes them itself, builds industry, creates added value, with the ultimate aim being the prosperity of the people,” Gunhar said during a hearing (RDP) of Commission XII of the DPR RI at the Parliamentary Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, quoted on Tuesday (15/9/2026).
The legislator from the PDI Perjuangan party explained that the contribution of natural resource management needs to be visible through state revenue, whether via taxes, royalties or dividends. Job creation is also one of the economic benefit indicators that requires attention.
He urged greater transparency to demonstrate the extent to which mineral wealth management benefits the state and society. According to him, the contribution of each mining industry entity needs to be clearly measurable so that an evaluation of natural resource management can be carried out comprehensively.
Gunhar also highlighted the substantial profits still enjoyed by the private sector in natural resource management. He considered this situation needs to be evaluated to strengthen the state’s role in optimising the benefits of mineral wealth.
“It is disheartening to see. It turns out the private sector draws more profit from our natural resources,” he said.
Therefore, Gunhar called for a deeper evaluation of each mining industry entity. He also requested the strengthening of oversight functions and policy support so that the objectives behind establishing MIND ID can be achieved optimally.
He said Commission XII of the DPR will continue to support MIND ID as a strategic partner in carrying out the mandate of Article 33 of the 1945 Constitution. Strengthening the state’s role in managing natural wealth is expected to ensure that the benefits of mineral resources grow ever greater for the state and society.
