House of Representatives has not yet published Asset Forfeiture Bill draft to prevent misinterpretation

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR RI), Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal, revealed that the House has not yet published the draft of the Bill on Asset Forfeiture due to concerns regarding potential misinterpretation among the public.

He stated that the drafting of the Bill is still being refined and has not yet passed through the formulation team (timus) and the synchronisation team (timsin). Consequently, the House has withheld the release of the Asset Forfeiture Bill draft from the outset.

“It would actually be dangerous if it were opened before the formulation and synchronisation teams had finished, as it could lead to misinterpretation later,” said Cucun at the parliamentary complex, Jakarta, on Tuesday.

Therefore, he noted that the publication of the Bill’s draft will occur alongside the discussion of the List of Identified Problems (DIM) and the academic manuscript, as the Bill represents entirely new legislation.

Previously, the Chairman of Commission III of the House, Habiburokhman, revealed that 13 types of criminal offences have been proposed for inclusion in the Asset Forfeiture Bill, ranging from corruption to human trafficking.

He did not deny that many parties are concerned that ordinary citizens could be subject to asset forfeiture even if they do not hold official positions. However, he emphasised that the Indonesian constitution upholds the principle of equality before the law.

The leadership of the House of Representatives has committed to passing the Asset Forfeiture Bill by 15 December 2026. This commitment was signed by the Deputy Speaker of the House, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, and witnessed by representatives of the AMPB, including Supriyono, also known as Mas Botok.
