House of Representatives Emphasises K3 Oversight in Response to Bekasi SPBE Incident
Bekasi (ANTARA) - Chairman of Commission VII of the House of Representatives Saleh Partaonan Daulay has emphasised strict oversight of occupational health and safety (K3) standards in response to the fire incident at the Cimuning Bulk LPG Filling Station (SPBE) in Bekasi City.
The fire disaster is believed to have been triggered by a gas pipe leak during the filling process, causing an explosion that produced flames. Meanwhile, the fossil fuel was also released into the air, carried by the wind, burning several houses and other buildings around the location.
“I urge all parties to increase vigilance and strict oversight in high-risk work areas following the incident involving LPG that resulted in casualties,” said Saleh during a working visit to Bekasi Regency on Thursday.
“Business operators must increase caution and ensure that all security procedures are properly implemented,” he stated.
Saleh emphasised the importance of the government’s role in conducting intensive oversight. Without strict oversight, field business operations are feared to run unchecked, including neglecting safety standards and the implementation of occupational health and safety (K3).
“If not supervised, it is feared that it will run on its own without control, and technical regulations such as K3 will not be implemented as they should,” he said.
He called for violations of regulations to be firmly addressed in accordance with applicable provisions. Sanction mechanisms, from warnings to business closures, must be consistently applied to non-compliant parties.
In the context of LPG distribution, Saleh reminded that the gas is state-owned, while business actors only act as distributors. Therefore, the government’s firmness in oversight is very important.
Regarding the incident that caused 17 casualties, including two SPBE employees, Saleh highlighted Pertamina’s direct responsibility. He hopes Pertamina will provide maximum handling to the victims.
“First, we hope for adequate medical assistance according to standards. Second, assistance to victims’ families is also important, considering the long-term impacts that may arise,” he said.
He encouraged ongoing assistance, such as support for new businesses or jobs for affected victims to help them return to normal life after the incident.
“Such steps are important as a form of social responsibility and protection for the community. We all pray that all victims recover soon, may they be granted quick healing. I am saddened by this incident,” he said.
