House of Representatives Commission VIII Urges Public to Maintain Tolerance for Differences on Eid al-Fitr 2026
JAKARTA - The Chairman of the House of Representatives Commission VIII, Marwan Dasopang, has urged the public to respect the government’s isbat session outcome, which sets 1 Syawal 1447 Hijriah or Eid al-Fitr 2026 on Saturday, 21 March 2026.
Marwan stated that the decision was reached through agreement among various parties, including the government and relevant stakeholders, after considering the results of hisab and rukyat across all regions of Indonesia.
“This decision is the result of joint deliberation and embodies our unity. We fully support the Minister of Religious Affairs’ steps in carrying out their mandate well,” Marwan said after the isbat session held on Thursday night (19/3/2026).
This strengthens the conclusion that the crescent moon was not visible.
“The conclusion is indeed that it was not possible to sight the crescent moon, and after confirmation from all regions of Indonesia, no one succeeded in sighting it,” Marwan explained.
“If there are members of the public who believe Eid al-Fitr falls on Friday, that can be tolerated and should not become a source of difference. The most important thing is to maintain Islamic brotherhood,” he said.
“The momentum of Eid al-Fitr must be an occasion to strengthen brotherhood, not to enlarge differences,” Marwan concluded.
