The Indonesian Confederation of Trade Unions (KSPI) has requested that the Eid al-Fitr bonus (THR) for private sector workers and labourers be paid three weeks before Eid, or H-21. Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives’ Commission IX, Yahya Zaini, agrees with the proposal.

“I agree with the workers’ proposal to expedite the THR payment. This is because workers also need to return to their hometowns to buy tickets and prepare everything,” said Yahya to reporters on Thursday (26/2/2026).

Yahya said that the regulation regarding the timing of THR payments already exists in the Minister of Manpower’s decree, which states that it must be paid no later than H-7. However, he highly appreciates companies that can pay earlier so that workers have time to prepare for Eid.

“If there are cases of companies that do not want to provide THR, they must be given strict sanctions, ranging from administrative sanctions to the revocation of their business license,” Yahya emphasized.

According to him, the number of cases of delayed and non-compliance in paying THR continues to increase each year. This should be a concern for the government to remind business owners.

“Regional governments should establish THR complaint posts in the regions because many cases occur in the regions. Regional governments must proactively communicate with business owners in their respective regions, provide education and socialization that THR is important to improve the welfare of workers,” he added.

Previously, it was reported that the President of the Labour Party and KSPI, Said Iqbal, requested that the THR be paid H-21 before Eid. Said said that accelerating the payment of this bonus is important to prevent companies from carrying out layoffs or temporarily laying off some of their employees to avoid paying THR.

“KSPI and the Labour Party request that the government and the House of Representatives expedite the payment of THR to H-21, not H-14 as proposed by the House of Representatives or H-7 as previously decided by the Ministry of Manpower,” said Said.
