Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives Commission I, Dave Laksono, stated that Indonesia must continue to strengthen national sovereignty while adhering firmly to the principles of its free and active foreign policy.

He made this statement in response to a number of global conflicts that have yet to subside, from the Russia-Ukraine war to the latest tensions in the Middle East involving Iran, Israel, and the United States.

“Indonesia must continue to promote permanent solutions for global conflicts, so that it does not stop at mere discourse but truly results in peace,” said Dave during a discussion held at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Wednesday.

In the security sector, according to him, there are now threats of hybrid warfare that must not be taken lightly. Although tensions occur in other parts of the world, he believes Indonesia also needs to increase national vigilance against potential ongoing impacts from those conflicts, including in the South China Sea region which is quite close to Indonesian territory.

“China is Indonesia’s main trading partner, but we also need technological support and cooperation from the United States and Europe. So relations must remain balanced,” he said.

According to him, the global situation also affects the economic sector, particularly the surge in world oil prices. However, he appreciated the steps taken by the Indonesian Government, which he assessed as capable of maintaining price stability through fiscal policies.

“The Government, including President Prabowo and the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, has managed to contain the impact of rising oil prices through APBN management,” he said.
