Chairman of Commission VIII of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Marwan Dasopang, has urged the public to prioritise tolerance towards differences in determining the Eid al-Fitr holiday for 2026. The government, through the Sidang Isbat, has set 1 Syawal 1447 Hijriah to fall on Saturday, 21 March 2026.

“Even if there are members of the public who understand and believe that 1 Syawal falls on Friday, this can be tolerated and should not become a point of difference among us as Muslims, and let us maintain our brotherhood well,” said Marwan during a press conference on the determination of 1 Syawal 1447 H in Jakarta on Thursday (19/3).

Marwan explained that this decision was made after monitoring teams at 117 points across Indonesia reported that the crescent moon was not visible.

“Therefore, it is decided that 1 Syawal falls on Saturday, 21 March,” he stated.

Religious Affairs Minister Nasaruddin Umar invited all Muslims in Indonesia to maintain the solemnity of Eid by preserving peace, security, and order.

“Let us make Eid al-Fitr a momentum to strengthen brotherhood, reconnect ties of kinship, and maintain social stability as our contribution to building a peaceful and prosperous Indonesia,” said Nasaruddin.
