House of Representatives Begins Drafting Single Data Bill, Comprising 130 Articles and 16 Chapters
The House of Representatives’ Legislation Body (Baleg) has begun drafting the Single Data Indonesia (SDI) Bill. The drafting process was undertaken by Baleg after holding several meetings with the government and experts in recent weeks since late January 2026. “I believe the briefing meetings with expert staff, as part of our formal process in drafting, have been completed, and we will now proceed to the next stage, which is the drafting itself,” said Baleg Chairman Bob Hasan during a Baleg plenary meeting at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Monday (6/4). A representative from Baleg’s expert staff presented that the SDI Bill will consist of 130 articles in 16 chapters. Key points to be regulated include the division of authorities; standards for data, metadata, and technical infrastructure; data protection; supervision and evaluation; and public participation. In the presentation, Baleg’s expert staff stated that the Single Data Bill aims to establish national baseline data as the primary source in national and regional development. The bill is also expected to build an effective and efficient digital government and ensure citizens’ constitutional rights to privacy, personal data, and public information. Baleg Deputy Chairman Sturman Panjaitan assured that the Single Data Bill operates in a different domain from the Statistics Bill currently being discussed in Commission III of the House of Representatives. According to him, at first glance, the two bills appear similar, but substantively they differ, so the Working Committee must study them carefully. “Because if we do not examine it closely, it seems as if they are the same, between BPS or statistics and SDI,” said Sturman.
