Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The government, through the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), continues to strengthen the effectiveness of state budget use in the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme through a more efficient and targeted spending pattern as well as budget refocusing.

Deputy Chair of the Budget Committee of the House of Representatives (DPR RI), Wihadi Wijayanto, said the MBG programme is a flagship initiative of President Prabowo aimed at improving the nutrition of Indonesian children while strengthening the circular economy through the provision of MBG meals carried out by Nutrition Fulfilment Service Units (SPPG).

Regarding budget efficiency, the Budget Committee views the MBG budget as having a noble purpose, with its allocation aimed at improving nutrition, and the current portion is considered sufficiently good. The Budget Committee encourages BGN’s role in exercising control over SPPG units while continuing to pay attention to nutritional content.

The MBG budget for 2026 is targeted at Rp 335 trillion, while in 2027 the budget ceiling falls to Rp 174 trillion. This figure is not yet final, with future funding to be focused on raw materials, whereas previously it was also allocated for capital expenditure.

How does the DPR’s Budget Committee view the MBG budget efficiency efforts? Watch the full dialogue between Shania Alatas and Deputy Chair of the DPR RI Budget Committee, Wihadi Wijayanto, on Squawk Box, CNBC Indonesia (Monday, 13/07/2026).
