House members to visit China

JAKARTA: Several members of the House of Representatives' interlegislative body will begin a five-day tour of China next week as part of efforts to attract Chinese investors to the country.

Lawmaker Ade Daud Nasution said on Friday the visit was a follow-up to a recent visit by members of the Chinese parliament.

He said about 10 to 12 members of the body would leave for Beijing on Aug. 12. He declined to give the names of the lawmakers.

"This will be a positive visit because we will explain to (Chinese businesspeople) conditions in Indonesia and we will invite Chinese investors to come here," he said.

The planned trip comes amid strong criticism of overseas visits by lawmakers, particularly during a time of budgetary constraints. -- Detik
