House Member Warns Operators Against Hiking Tariffs After Court Rules Data Rollover Mandatory

House of Representatives (DPR) member Nurul Arifin has welcomed a Constitutional Court ruling that prevents telecommunications operators from voiding unused internet quota, calling it a form of state protection for consumer rights. She cautioned, however, that the implementation of the ruling must not lead to new problems, such as increased internet tariffs or reduced data package benefits that would ultimately burden the public. Arifin urged the government to swiftly draft derivative regulations to provide legal certainty, including clear mechanisms for data rollover, transparent package information, and consumer safeguards against unreasonable price hikes, while also calling on the Business Competition Supervisory Commission (KPPU) to monitor for potential price-fixing agreements among operators.
