House Member Urges Police to Investigate Syndicate Intimidating Motorcycle Theft Victim

Jakarta - A member of the House of Representatives (DPR) Commission III, Abdullah, has urged the police to investigate a group of people suspected of being a syndicate that intimidated a woman who was a victim of motorcycle theft in Bekasi, West Java. He stated that the incident involving a woman named Viola Putri, which was captured in a video circulating on social media, was highly unusual because the victim was intimidated while trying to recover her stolen vehicle. “The victim was not defended, but instead intimidated. This is what I find strange. Therefore, I urge the police to thoroughly investigate this alleged motorcycle theft case, including probing whether a syndicate is behind the incident,” Abdullah said in Jakarta on Tuesday. He also urged law enforcement officers to take firm action against anyone proven to have committed violence or intimidation against the victim. According to him, firm action is important to educate the public not to commit acts that harm others, especially against someone who is trying to seek justice for a criminal act they have experienced. “Do not let the victim lose their sense of security and legal certainty after losing their property,” he added. Abdullah also asked the police, together with local governments and stakeholders, to enhance legal and human rights education for the public so that they do not take actions that could potentially hinder the legal process or harm victims. “If acts of intimidation against victims are allowed, it can tarnish the integrity of the law, which should provide certainty, benefit, and justice for every citizen,” he said.
