House Member Urges Police to Investigate Other Parties in Bandung Confinement Case
Jakarta - Member of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Martin Tumbelaka, has urged the police to also investigate the suspected involvement of other parties in the case of the confinement and abuse of a woman with the initials YTR in Bandung Regency, West Java. He highlighted the extremely long duration of the confinement, arguing that the police must therefore expand the scope of their investigation into the case. “This incident lasted for approximately three years. The police must thoroughly investigate the possibility of other parties’ involvement, if any exist,” Martin said in Jakarta on Wednesday. According to him, it is possible that there are other parties who knew about, allowed, or even participated in assisting the crime. He stressed that no other involved parties should escape legal prosecution. He described the perpetrator’s actions of confining and abusing the victim to the point of physical disability as a crime beyond the limits of humanity. “This is a very heinous and intolerable act. I ask law enforcement officials to take firm action and impose the maximum possible punishment on the perpetrator,” he said. He also reminded the state to prioritise the victim’s recovery. YTR’s condition, involving deep trauma and severe physical injuries, requires special attention from various relevant agencies. “Our focus is not only on punishing the perpetrator, but also on protecting the victim. The state must be present to provide medical and psychological assistance, and ensure the victim’s future safety,” he stated.
