House Member Urges KPK to Ensure No Speculation in Forestry Minister Graft Allegations

Jakarta - Member of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Abdullah, has stated that the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) must ensure the entire sequence of events is disclosed transparently to avoid speculation and a decline in public trust, regarding alleged gratuity involving Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni. “The KPK must reveal the entire sequence of events professionally, independently, and based on evidence. There must be no perception that case handling differs when it involves officials or ministers,” Abdullah said in Jakarta on Wednesday. As is known, the KPK conducted a sting operation against Kuantan Singingi Regent Suhardiman Amby in a suspected bribery case related to the appointment of a Regional Secretary. Additionally, the KPK is investigating alleged gratuity linked to the release of Limited Production Forest areas connected to the implementation of the Agrarian Reform Object Land programme. In its development, Raja Juli also disclosed to the public that an envelope from Suhardiman Amby was left in his office after a meeting held on 2 June. Afterwards, Raja Juli claimed the envelope was returned through his aide and a gratuity rejection report was only submitted to the KPK on 3 July 2026, following the sting operation against the Kuantan Singingi Regent. According to Abdullah, this timeline is a part that must be fully explained by the KPK to the public. He noted that the gratuity rejection report was submitted after the sting operation and the naming of a suspect, raising various questions among the public. Therefore, he urged the KPK to provide explanations based on facts, evidence, and prevailing laws and regulations, as the public has a right to know the sequence of the alleged gratuity. “There must be no room left for question marks, let alone opening the possibility of a perception of unequal treatment before the law,” he said. He also reminded all state officials to fully understand the provisions of the Corruption Eradication Law and KPK Regulation Number 1 of 2026 concerning Gratuity Reporting. He added that enhancing integrity cannot rely solely on enforcement but must be strengthened through anti-corruption education, guidance, and continuous socialisation. “All state officials must understand the regulations regarding gratuity, conflicts of interest, and corruption offences to avoid mistakes that ultimately harm institutions or create negative perceptions of the government’s commitment to eradicating corruption,” he said.
