House member urges government to prioritise PPPK teachers in 3T regions for civil service appointment
A member of House Commission X, Stevano Rizki Adranacus, has asked the government to prioritise teachers with government work agreement (PPPK) status in regions classified as frontier, outermost, and disadvantaged (3T) so that they can take part in selection and be appointed as civil servants (PNS).
He wants the policy to consider not only administrative aspects but also the conditions and needs of educators in regions that have long faced resource constraints. According to him, 3T regions require greater attention because the challenges of achieving educational equity in those areas are far more significant.
“3T regions must be a priority. Teachers serving in areas with geographical challenges and limited facilities need certainty and attention from the government,” Stevano said in Jakarta on Thursday.
According to him, teachers with PPPK status have made a major contribution to carrying out educational duties in various regions. He views the policy opening opportunities for PPPK teachers to be appointed as civil servants as a form of recognition of their service.
At the same time, he said, strengthening the status of teachers in 3T regions could also be part of the government’s strategy to retain quality educators so that they continue to serve in areas that need them.
He cited East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) as one of the regions that should be prioritised in the teacher policy, because amid the region’s geographical challenges, certainty of welfare for teachers needs attention.
He therefore hopes that the government’s policy can be implemented fairly and transparently, taking into account length of service and the needs of each region.
“We appreciate the central government for listening to the aspirations of the public, particularly regarding the fate of PPPK teachers,” he said.
Previously, Deputy Speaker of the House Sufmi Dasco Ahmad said that the House and the government had finalised the status and number of teachers included in part-time and full-time government work agreements (PPPK) who can become civil servants (PNS) through selection in 2027.
Dasco said after a meeting with the government at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Tuesday (18/8) that the desire of teachers with PPPK status to be appointed as civil servants is an aspiration frequently conveyed to the House by teachers.
According to him, the opportunity for civil service selection is not only for regular school teachers but also includes madrasah teachers and kindergarten teachers.
“We have reached the finalisation of the meeting results regarding the status of part-time PPPK teachers and PPPK teachers who want to become civil servants within the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, including state madrasah teachers and kindergarten teachers,” Dasco said.
