House Member Hopes President's Speech Focuses on Welfare

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Member of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) Nurul Arifin hopes President Prabowo Subianto’s state address at the Annual Session of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR RI) and the Joint Session of the DPR RI and the Regional Representative Council (DPD RI) can affirm development priorities and public welfare, including through the management of the 2027 Draft State Budget (RAPBN).

“I hope the President’s speech regarding the 2027 RAPBN will meet everyone’s expectations, and that development and welfare priorities are, of course, for the people,” Nurul said ahead of the MPR RI Annual Session and the Joint Session of the DPR RI-DPD RI, as well as President Prabowo Subianto’s State Address in Jakarta on Friday.

She expressed hope that the budget allocated in the 2027 RAPBN can be used optimally to support development and public welfare. According to her, further discussion will be conducted through the views of the DPR RI factions on 18 August 2026.

Regarding the plan to establish new Regional Military Commands (Kodam), Nurul stated that the policy has been discussed between the DPR and the government and is directed at strengthening Indonesia’s defence. “So we all hope that the establishment of this Kodam is in line with strengthening the defence of the Republic of Indonesia. It is not merely a desire to strengthen the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) as an institution alone,” she said.

She urged the public not to rush to judge the establishment of the Kodam before seeing its implementation and impact on the national defence system. “So we should not be prejudiced first, but look at the results,” Nurul said.

Parliament is holding the 2026 MPR RI Annual Session and the DPR-DPD RI Joint Session at the Nusantara Building, Parliamentary Complex, Jakarta, on Friday (14/8). During the series of events for the 2026 MPR RI Annual Session and the DPR RI and DPD RI Joint Session, President Prabowo Subianto will deliver a speech on the performance reports of state institutions and a state address in the context of the 81st Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia. The 2025 Annual Session and Joint Session of the DPR RI and DPD RI are being held ahead of the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia, which carries the theme “A Sovereign, Just, and Prosperous Indonesia”.
