House member holds 'people's competition', involving MSMEs and boosting Koja residents' economy
The ‘People’s Competition’ held by member of House of Representatives (DPR) Commission VI Nurwayah in Koja, North Jakarta, was not only a source of entertainment for residents but also involved micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to open market access and encourage local economic activity.
The people’s competition, in the form of a domino tournament, was attended by around 200 pairs at the Koja District Sports Hall (GOR), North Jakarta, on Sunday. Nurwayah said the tournament was deliberately packaged as an activity close to residents’ daily lives.
“Our aim in holding this Domino Tournament is to present an activity that is popular with the public. Domino is a people’s game, part of public entertainment that we usually find at hangout spots or as a pastime during neighbourhood watch duty,” said Nurwayah in Jakarta on Sunday.
The legislator from the Democratic Party emphasised the importance of sportsmanship in this competition. She expressed hope that similar activities could continue to be held sustainably and reach a wider constituency.
In addition to the grassroots sports competition, the event also involved assisted micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
A number of MSME players opened bazaar stalls to market their products to visitors and participants, such as traditional herbal medicine products from Z&N, which recorded high sales during the event.
Nurwayah explained that the involvement of MSMEs in the grassroots sports event was her commitment to encouraging local economic activity at the grassroots level.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Nurwayah Cup 2026 Domino Tournament Committee, Haji Salahudin Sabo, appreciated the hard work of the entire team who prepared the event optimally so that the high level of public participation could be well facilitated.
Participant enthusiasm was also evident from the acknowledgement of one participant pair from Koja who took advantage of the free event to build camaraderie while competing for prizes provided by the committee.
“Through the combination of sports competition and a creative economy bazaar, this activity not only serves as a platform for residents’ entertainment but also provides a direct economic impact for small business players in the surrounding area,” he said.
