House Member Highlights Importance of Fuel and Coal Supply for National Energy Security
A member of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) Commission XII, Sigit K Yunianto, has highlighted the importance of maintaining the availability of fuel oil (BBM) and coal for power plants as a fundamental measure to guarantee national energy security.
The statement was made by Sigit during a working visit by the Electricity Working Committee (Panja Ketenagalistrikan) of Commission XII DPR RI in Lampung Selatan Regency, Lampung Province, on Wednesday.
“The supply of fuel and the availability of coal for power plants are fundamental matters that we must safeguard together. This is not just about electricity, but about overall national energy resilience,” said the politician from the PDI Perjuangan party.
Sigit emphasised that certainty in fuel and coal supply must be a shared priority, as both are crucial factors in maintaining the reliability of the national energy supply for the public and the industrial sector.
He added that synergy between the government and business entities in the energy sector needs to be continuously strengthened to ensure optimal energy distribution and to anticipate potential supply disruptions in various regions.
The working visit included intensive discussions with key energy stakeholders, including the Director General of Oil and Gas at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, the Acting Director General of Electricity, the Head of the Downstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Agency (BPH Migas), as well as directors from PT Pertamina (Persero), PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, PT PGN Tbk, PT PLN (Persero), and PT PLN Nusantara Power.
This visit by the Electricity Working Committee is part of the DPR RI’s oversight function. In addition to assessing the readiness of energy infrastructure, the visit aimed to gather constructive input to improve national energy resilience and the reliability of the electricity system.
