House Member Demands Thorough Investigation into Fatal Matraman Clash

Strengthened patrols are part of efforts to maintain security.

Member of Commission III of the DPR RI, Nasyirul Falah Amru, has called on the police to investigate the clash between residents in Matraman, Jakarta, on Sunday (26/7). The clash resulted in one death and material damage to a number of buildings.

“I am confident that the police, in this case the Regional Police Chief, can resolve this matter. We greatly hope for the professionalism of the police,” said Falah in Jakarta on Monday (27/7).

According to him, the residents’ clash in Matraman could actually have been anticipated, as similar incidents have frequently recurred at the location.

Falah added that society plays a role in keeping the situation conducive so that similar events do not recur, rather than provoking clashes between groups of residents.

“Whatever their reasons, what they did (the clash in Matraman) is not justified in the eyes of the law,” he said.

Regarding the Matraman clash case, Polda Metro Jaya has named seven suspects across two separate cases.

The clash occurred on Jalan Tambak, Pegangsaan Subdistrict, Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Sunday (26/7).

Head of Public Relations at Polda Metro Jaya, Chief Commissioner Budi Hermanto, said the seven suspects comprise four people in a case of vandalism of street vendors’ carts and three people in a case of mob assault that resulted in one fatality. The four suspects, Budi explained, are responsible for the destruction of nasi uduk carts on Jalan Matraman. They bear the initials GNA, AJL, FAM, and ELL. Meanwhile, in the mob assault case on Jalan Tambak that cost a person’s life, investigators named three suspects with the initials SK, AS, and OR.

Two schools located on the second floor of the Jami Matraman Mosque in Jakarta have implemented remote learning (PJJ) following the clash between groups of residents in the area on Sunday (26/7).
