House Member: Danantara Could Drive Economic Growth

Jakarta - Member of Commission XI of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) Kamrussamad views the existence of Danantara as a potential driver of new economic growth through investment and state asset management. “With Danantara as a sovereign wealth fund, we hope it can become a locomotive for new, quality economic growth,” he said when met before attending the 2026 Annual Session of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR RI) and the Joint Session of the DPR RI and the Regional Representative Council (DPD RI) in Jakarta on Friday. He stated that the second quarter 2026 economic growth of 5.29 percent reflects the impact of several national priority programmes on economic growth. Kamrussamad expressed his hope for quality economic growth. He noted that every one percent of economic growth is estimated to create more than 900,000 new jobs, so the government needs to explain which sectors are the sources of job creation. “Based on the formula of our economic experts, every 1 percent of economic growth opens up more than 900,000 new jobs,” he said. Kamrussamad also hopes for the provision of employment as stipulated in Article 27 paragraph (2) of the 1945 Constitution. “What we are also waiting for is a reaffirmation of the commitment to Article 27 paragraph (2) of the Constitution, that every citizen has the right to a decent living and decent work for humanity,” he said. Kamrussamad stated that this commitment needs to be translated into a national development strategy, particularly through quality economic growth capable of creating jobs. On Friday, the 2026 Annual Session of the MPR RI and the Joint Session of the DPR RI and DPD RI was held, with one of the agendas being President Prabowo Subianto’s speech for the submission of the Performance Report of State Institutions and the State Address of the President of the Republic of Indonesia in the context of the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia. In addition to the speech, the government will also screen a video of government performance achievements. This annual session is a state agenda to welcome the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia, which carries the theme “A Sovereign, Just, and Prosperous Indonesia”.
