House Leadership Meets 18 Labour Unions to Discuss Employment Bill

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal met with 18 labour unions at the parliament complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday (3/8/2026) to discuss the draft Employment Bill. The labour delegation included the President of the Confederation of All Indonesian Workers’ Unions (KSPSI), Andi Gani Nena Wea.

Cucun stated that the DPR is open to receiving and accommodating input from all confederations, even those who have not yet met with the drafting committee. “We will continue to accept and accommodate input for the preparation of the academic draft of this Employment Bill,” he said after the meeting.

He noted that discussions on the bill are ongoing during the recess period, with the formulation team and synchronisation team set to provide further input shortly. “The harmonisation process at the Legislation Body is still lengthy, after which it will return to Commission IX and we will finalise it as a House initiative bill,” Cucun added.

Cucun confirmed that the DPR has received a comprehensive bundle of proposals from the labour representatives and hopes all suggestions can be incorporated. He emphasised that the bill aims to provide protection and welfare certainty for workers while also ensuring legal certainty for employers to foster a healthy investment climate.

KSPSI President Andi Gani Nena Wea thanked the DPR for engaging with the unions and expressed hope that the bill would favour workers. He noted that the coalition represents 18 confederations and 157 national federations, accounting for 90 percent of the labour force. “We have prepared this draft bill over the past week for discussion with the DPR,” he said.
