House Leadership Confirms Asset Forfeiture Bill Still in Progress

Jakarta - Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) Sari Yuliati has confirmed that the drafting of the Bill on Asset Forfeiture related to Criminal Offences is still in progress and has not been halted. According to Sari, the Asset Forfeiture Bill is included in the Priority National Legislation Programme (Prolegnas) for 2026, and Commission III of the DPR RI is currently in the drafting stage, gathering aspirations. “There is false news circulating on social media stating that the DPR RI has rejected the deliberation of the Asset Forfeiture Bill related to Criminal Offences,” Sari said while chairing a plenary session at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Tuesday. She stated that the DPR is currently gathering public input as part of meaningful public participation, inviting various groups such as academics, practitioners, students, experts, and other parties. Meanwhile, Chairman of Commission III of the DPR RI, Habiburokhman, said the DPR RI is currently striving to accelerate the absorption of aspirations from various parties regarding the Asset Forfeiture Bill. He stated that the circulating news about the DPR rejecting the Asset Forfeiture Bill is a hoax. Sari confirmed that Commission III of the DPR RI continues to hold public hearing meetings on the bill over several weeks. Furthermore, she said the DPR RI took the initiative to propose the bill so that the mechanism could be carried out more quickly, as the Problem Inventory List (DIM) would only be submitted by the government if the bill were proposed by the DPR RI. “If the law is proposed by the government, then the DIM will come from eight factions. As we know, each faction will certainly create a DIM which may, possibly, be substantially the same as one another, but with different wording, which will result in a great many DIMs,” she said.
