House leadership calls for coordination to speed up NTT earthquake response
Coordination between the central government, regional governments, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), the Ministry of Social Affairs and all relevant parties must run optimally so that the needs of the community can be met immediately.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives Sari Yuliati said coordination between the central government, regional governments, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), the Ministry of Social Affairs and all relevant parties is key to accelerating the handling of the earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).
“Coordination between the central government, regional governments, BNPB, the Ministry of Social Affairs and all relevant parties must run optimally so that the needs of the community can be met immediately,” Sari said as quoted in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Previously, Sari and the House of Representatives Post-Disaster Management Task Force (Galapana) had directly inspected the earthquake-affected locations in NTT.
During the inspection, the House Galapana Task Force observed the condition of affected communities while also listening to reports from regional governments and relevant agencies regarding the emergency response measures that had been taken.
In addition to inspecting the locations, the House also requested certainty in the handling of victims, including logistical support, health services, temporary housing and social assistance distributed by BNPB and the Ministry of Social Affairs.
According to Sari, the House is committed to continuing to oversee post-disaster handling and rehabilitation efforts until the condition of affected communities fully recovers and they can resume their activities safely and normally.
BNPB also recorded that 2,403 houses were damaged by the earthquake on the northern side of Flores Island, of which 1,543 suffered heavy damage, 328 moderate damage and 532 light damage.
Furthermore, 22 educational facilities were damaged and 88 others were affected by the earthquake tremors. Meanwhile, affected health facilities reached 211 units, including 21 hospitals and 190 community health centres.
