A house in Tenjoayu Village, Tanara, Serang Regency, Banten, was reportedly struck by lightning, causing it to catch fire. The owner, Sanah (50), was thrown by the impact of the strike.

Tanara Police Chief AKP Teguh Yuni said the incident occurred on Sunday (22/2/2026) at approximately 23:00 local time, whilst the area was experiencing heavy rainfall.

He said the victim was about to leave the house during the rain when lightning suddenly struck part of the property, producing sparks.

“As a result of the strike, the victim was thrown approximately one metre. Fortunately, Sanah did not sustain serious injuries despite falling from the force of the lightning strike,” Teguh told reporters on Monday (23/2/2026).

The fire subsequently grew and engulfed part of the house along with the victim’s shop located at the front of the property. Local residents attempted to extinguish the blaze whilst awaiting the fire brigade.

“Shortly afterwards, Serang Regency fire service personnel arrived at the scene to assist with extinguishing efforts. Tanara Police officers together with the Tanara Sub-district Disaster Preparedness Unit (Tagana) also helped secure the location and assist residents,” he said.

He stated the fire was triggered by the lightning strike during a period of particularly heavy rainfall. There were no fatalities as a result of the incident.

“The lightning struck part of the house, producing sparks that spread rapidly because parts of the building and shop contents were highly flammable. We have carried out standard policing procedures and coordinated with Tenjoayu Village authorities for data collection and further response measures,” he said.
