A house in the transmigration area of Puncak Jeringo Village, Suela District, East Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), was completely destroyed by fire tonight. Local residents attempted to extinguish the flames independently.

The fire occurred at approximately 21:03 WITA on Friday (4/9/2026). The blaze is suspected to have been caused by either a gas explosion or sparks originating from the yard of a nearby house.

“There are two possibilities for the cause: from the yard or from a gas cylinder explosion, though it is not yet certain. According to the homeowner, the fire originated from the kitchen,” explained Radius, a resident of Jeringo Village, to detikBali on Friday night.

Radius explained that the house is located in Block 10 and was part of a government-provided assistance programme under the transmigration programme. At the time of the incident, Radius noted that the homeowner was asleep. The fire suddenly appeared, prompting the homeowner to scream for help.

“The homeowner was already asleep. Coincidentally, residents were gathered in one place for a community meeting. We suddenly heard screams for help from the homeowner of the burning house,” Radius explained.

Upon hearing the cries, residents rushed to provide assistance. They struggled to extinguish the fire independently using whatever rudimentary tools were available.

“Because of the panic, no one thought to call the fire department. The fire is still burning as of now, but it has subsided,” added Radius.

According to Radius, there were no casualties in the fire. “There were no fatalities. The total losses have not yet been calculated,” said Radius.
