House in dense residential area in Tambora, West Jakarta catches fire, 95 firefighting personnel deployed

Jakarta, Kompas.com - A fire broke out in a densely populated residential area on Krendang Barat Street, Tambora subdistrict, West Jakarta, on Thursday evening (28 May 2026). Footage received by Kompas.com showed large flames engulfing a narrow alley, with thick black smoke billowing high and residents panicking at the scene. Syaiful confirmed via WhatsApp on Thursday that the fire was reported at 7.47 PM WIB, with the first response arriving at 7.48 PM and reaching the site five minutes later. Initial firefighting operations began at 7.54 PM with seven units and 35 personnel, later expanded to 14 units and 50 additional staff, bringing the total to 21 units and 95 personnel. ‘The situation remains critical as firefighting operations continue,’ Syaiful stated.
