House in Cirebon Catches Fire, Suspected Electrical Short from Mobile Phone Charger

A house belonging to a resident in Blok Pahing, Karangsuwung Village, Karangsembung District, Cirebon Regency, was engulfed in flames while its occupants were away. The fire is suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit while the homeowner was charging a mobile phone.

According to detikJabar on Thursday (13/8/2026), the blaze was first noticed by neighbours who saw smoke and flames emerging from the house owned by Moh Toha. The house was occupied by his son, Guntur Fujiana, and his family.

At the time of the fire, Guntur and his family were outside the home. Residents who witnessed the incident immediately attempted to extinguish the flames using whatever equipment was available. However, the growing intensity of the fire meant their efforts were not fully successful.

The Head of Emergency Division at the Cirebon Regency Fire and Rescue Department, Eno Sujana, said his office received a report of the fire at 7.54 a.m. Western Indonesia Time. Upon arriving at the scene, officers immediately began handling the situation. Fire hoses were deployed and water was directed at the burning sections of the house.

The source of the fire is provisionally believed to have originated from a short circuit in the electrical installation at the socket used to charge a mobile phone. The flames then spread to a spring bed and bed frame inside the bedroom.

“The fire is suspected to have originated from an electrical short circuit in the phone charger socket in the bedroom. The flames then spread to the spring bed and bed frame before extending to other parts of the house,” he explained.
