House in Benhil Collapses Due to Riverbank Erosion
A house on the edge of the Ciliwung River in Bendungan Hilir, Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, collapsed on Friday morning, leaving the structure completely destroyed. Observations at the scene at 14:45 WIB showed only a pile of debris remaining from the collapsed building, which was situated near a waste disposal site and on a bend in the road. Police line has been installed at the location, and officers from Bhabinkamtibmas, Babinsa, the fire department, and PPSU are on site. Several local residents were seen observing the ruins and taking photographs. Tanah Abang Police Chief AKBP Dhimas Prasetyo stated the incident occurred on Jalan Administrasi Negara I, RT 01 RW 07, Bendungan Hilir, at approximately 05:30 WIB. According to witness accounts, cracks had been appearing in the walls and floor of the house since Thursday of the previous week, progressively widening each day until the structure collapsed. The homeowner had evacuated on Friday of the previous week, resulting in no casualties or injuries. The Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) indicated the suspected cause of the collapse was abrasion along the West Flood Canal (BKB) riverbank.
