A house in Bendungan Hilir (Benhil), Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, collapsed this morning. The collapse was triggered by erosion of the soil along the edge of the West Flood Canal (BKB).

Tanah Abang Metro Police Chief AKBP Dhimas Prasetyo stated on Friday (26/6/2026) that officers received a report from residents about a collapsed house or landslide. The incident occurred on Jalan Administrasi Negara I, RT 01 RW 07, Bendungan Hilir Urban Village, Tanah Abang District, at 5.30 a.m. Western Indonesia Time.

Tanah Abang Police personnel have visited the site of the collapsed house. According to witness statements, cracks in the walls and floor had been appearing as warning signs since Thursday (18/6) the previous week. The cracks in the walls and floor widened daily until the house collapsed or the landslide occurred on 26 June 2026 at around 5.48 a.m. Western Indonesia Time.

The homeowner had already evacuated since Friday (19/6). There were no fatalities or injuries resulting from the incident. A joint task force also visited the location. The house collapse was caused by abrasion along the West Flood Canal.

The Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD DKI Jakarta) explained that the suspected cause was abrasion on the banks of the West Flood Canal. In addition to the vacant house, a waste disposal site was also affected by the event. The moments leading up to the house collapse were captured by CCTV cameras in the vicinity, and the video went viral on social media.
