House Fire in Kemayoran, Explosion Heard Before Blaze
A fire broke out in Kebon Kosong, Kemayoran, Central Jakarta. Dozens of firefighters were deployed to extinguish the blaze.
“The type of property [that burned] was a semi-permanent house,” said Triyanto, head of operations at the Central Jakarta Fire and Rescue Sub-agency, on Thursday (8 October 2026).
Firefighters received information about the fire at around 12.15pm. The house was located at Jalan Dakota 2 No. 38, RT 8/RW 9, Kebon Kosong, Kemayoran district, Central Jakarta.
A total of 23 fire engines and 74 personnel were sent to tackle the fire in the densely populated neighbourhood. An explosion was heard before the blaze grew large.
“The sequence of events was that there was a popping sound on the roof and the outdoor air-conditioning unit caught fire, but the owner thought there was a disturbance,” he said.
Firefighting operations began at 12.24pm and were declared complete at 1.30pm. The operation was hampered by numerous illegally parked vehicles on the road.
“The obstacles were narrow roads and many illegally parked vehicles. The suspected cause is still under investigation,” he said.
The fire affected an area of around 7,500 square metres. A total of 43 people from eight families were affected.
