House Deputy Speaker to Dialogue with Student Protesters at Parliament Tomorrow
Wakil Ketua DPR Sufmi Dasco Ahmad stated that the House will receive and hold a dialogue with the masses of students who will demonstrate in front of the parliamentary complex on Friday (19/6) tomorrow. Dasco acknowledged that the leadership has heard about the follow-up protest plan by students at the DPR. Therefore, they will listen to their aspirations. “Tomorrow there is indeed a plan to be received by the DPR leadership,” Dasco said at the parliamentary complex on Thursday (18/6). However, Dasco did not disclose which student alliance would be received. Based on available information, only the Trisakti University BEM alliance is scheduled to protest. Quoting the Instagram account @bemftiusakti, the action is planned to start at 14.00 WIB. In their action, they will bring three demands: restore the economy and politics; second, eradicate the incompetence of officials; third, restore civilian supremacy. They are urging the government to immediately lower fuel prices and stop wasting the state budget. The students also expressed their rejection of the newly ratified Police Law. “BEM FTI Usakti calls on all student elements to close ranks, take to the streets, and ensure the people’s voice is heard loudly into the parliament building,” as quoted from their post.
