Deputy Speaker of House Commission III, Ahmad Sahroni, has given special attention to the alleged case of confinement and torture experienced by YTR (29) at the hands of her boyfriend, identified by the initials TH, in the Cileunyi area of Bandung Regency, West Java. He urged the police to arrest and severely punish the individual concerned. “I am monitoring this case. The perpetrator is barbaric, a person who must be severely punished for torturing the victim to such an extreme degree,” Sahroni said when contacted on Monday (22/6/2026). He also requested that investigators from the West Java Regional Police’s Directorate of Human Trafficking Crimes pursue the perpetrator. According to him, this is a humanitarian tragedy. “Once again we are faced with a gender-based torture tragedy that is utterly inhumane. The victim was tortured not only physically but also mentally, financially, and in her relations with her social environment. Therefore, I ask the police to immediately arrest the perpetrator and apply the maximum punishment because this is clearly a human rights violation,” Sahroni stated. Sahroni further requested that the police eventually charge the perpetrator with multiple articles carrying the maximum criminal threat. He also demanded the perpetrator be punished as severely as possible. “The perpetrator must be charged with layered articles and the maximum criminal threat, ranging from articles on grievous bodily harm, deprivation of liberty, to articles related to sexual violence if the elements are found during the investigation process. There should be no mercy whatsoever for perpetrators like this,” he stressed. “The state must be present to provide protection to the victim and a commensurate punishment to the perpetrator. The deterrent effect must be strong to send a message to perpetrators of domestic violence that the consequences of their actions are not trivial,” he continued. The case previously came to light after YTR was allegedly confined and tortured for approximately three years in a rented room in the Cileunyi area, Bandung Regency. As a result of the alleged violence she endured, the victim’s physical condition is concerning. She is reported to have suffered vision impairment, injuries to her lips, difficulty speaking, and an inability to walk normally. The family reported the case to the West Java Regional Police on 12 June 2026. Before she was found, the family admitted they did not know the victim’s whereabouts for years. According to the family’s statement, YTR was even considered missing for approximately three years before finally being found in a distressing condition. The case is now the focus of public and law enforcement attention, while the investigation into the whereabouts and alleged involvement of the perpetrator is still ongoing.
