House Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad has coordinated with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) and state electricity firm PT PLN (Persero) to ensure that rolling blackouts in Java do not happen again.

“We are all concerned about the current situation which has greatly affected us. Yesterday, we held a meeting with ESDM, PLN, the Attorney General’s Office, and the Head of the State Intelligence Agency,” Dasco said during a speech at a KSPI labour union national working meeting in Central Jakarta on Tuesday.

“We broke down the issues one by one, so God willing, the blackouts will not happen again this week and next week,” he added.

Dasco acknowledged that the recent blackouts in several areas were a result of ongoing global instability. He urged all parties to remain united so that Indonesia can prevent the adverse effects of global conflicts.

“The global impact is indeed extraordinary, but if we are united and share a common desire to solve this together, we can certainly mitigate the undesirable outcomes that would make our people suffer,” he said.

Previously, President Prabowo Subianto summoned PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo and other PLN officials to the Presidential Palace in Central Jakarta to request a report on the rolling blackouts affecting several regions.

Darmawan stated that the rolling blackouts in Java began to ease on Sunday. “Starting yesterday, Sunday, the electricity system condition in Java began to improve and rolling blackouts were successfully minimised,” Darmawan said at the Palace on Monday.

“We would like to apologise to the public for the inconvenience caused by these rolling blackouts,” he continued.

Darmawan explained that energy supplies from partners meeting the power plant specifications had started to flow, thereby strengthening the resilience of Java’s electricity system. He also noted that on Friday, two large partner-owned power plants experienced technical issues and were forced offline.

PLN teams were deployed to carry out repairs. Darmawan reported that one of the large power plants had been successfully restored and synchronised with the Java electricity system, and had begun supplying power again.
