House Deputy Speaker Backs Presidential Regulation Classifying LGBT as Non-Military Threat

Deputy Speaker of Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Dede Yusuf, has supported the government’s policy of including LGBT as part of a non-military threat in a new Presidential Regulation. He stated the move is necessary because the phenomenon is considered increasingly open within society.

“Oh, LGBT, actually in various countries, restrictions have already been put in place. Because the context here is that it is often dangerous or damaging to the new generations of children. Especially in places like the military and other areas,” Dede said on Wednesday (8/7/2026).

He affirmed his support for the policy of President Prabowo Subianto. According to him, the regulation is needed as a form of government response to a phenomenon deemed increasingly rampant and open in society.

“In my opinion, I support what the President has conveyed by issuing the new Presidential Regulation; we support that. Because now it is quite rampant and has become too, what’s the word, too transparent, these kinds of activities. So, in our view, what the President has done is good; there is now a regulation,” he said.

When asked whether he views LGBT as a threat, Dede responded that the issue is also a concern in various countries. “Oh, all over the world. All over the world, that threat has already occurred. And the problem is that adults can sort things out, but for teenagers and children, sometimes they cannot,” he said.
