House Deputy Speaker Appreciates Police and AGO's Steps Regarding Searches

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal has commended the steps taken by the National Police (Polri) and the Attorney General’s Office in handling alleged corruption offences, including the controversy surrounding searches at several locations.

According to Cucun, each law enforcement agency has its own mechanisms for carrying out the process of law enforcement.

“Whatever it may be, we appreciate it, however they each have their own mechanisms for taking law enforcement steps,” said Cucun at the Parliamentary Complex in Jakarta on Thursday.

Nevertheless, he admitted that he had not yet received further information regarding the legal proceedings.

“As to whether they carried out a search at someone’s premises, or anything else, I am not yet up to date,” he said.

Previously, a joint team from the National Police’s Anti-Corruption Task Force (Kortastipidkor) and the Jakarta Metropolitan Police conducted searches at several locations in connection with investigations into alleged corruption in coal procurement, the alleged corruption case involving PT Asabri, and PT Krakatau Steel.

During the series of searches, investigators seized cash, foreign currency, gold bars, as well as various documents believed to be related to the cases.

Overall, investigators have carried out searches at 12 different locations in Jakarta and its surrounding areas.
