Deputy Chairman of House Commission XIII Dewi Asmara has described the food security programme run by the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections (Kemenimipas) in correctional facilities across Indonesia as a breakthrough. Dewi Asmara made the statement whilst inspecting social service activities for house renovations, places of worship, and the optimisation of assimilation and education facilities at Warungkiara Class IIA Prison in Sukabumi, West Java, on Wednesday. She said Minister Agus Andrianto has been able to realise the corrections transformation he championed, benefiting not only inmates but also the surrounding community. “Corrections is no longer just about integrating inmates back into society; it has directly and tangibly reached the community. And the community feels the benefits,” said Dewi. During the event, Dewi witnessed the social service renovation of a resident’s previously uninhabitable home into a habitable one, as well as a mosque in Warungkiara Village, which is within the Warungkiara Prison environment. The house renovation programme was funded by the proceeds of a mass harvest under the national food security programme for inmates, held on 15 January 2026 at Cirebon Class I Prison. The renovation work utilised construction materials such as compressed earth blocks, paving blocks, and housing structures made from fly ash and bottom ash (FABA) produced by inmates at Tangerang Class I Prison. “Usually, CSR is done by state-owned enterprises. But here, inmates, through food security and under the guidance and direction of the Minister and Director General, have been able to benefit people across Indonesia,” she stated. Dewi noted that the corrections transformation through this food security programme also supports the Astacita vision of President Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka. “This is an example that the process of integration and assimilation is working. All this time, we have only known negative coverage about prisons. So, I hope media colleagues can help us prove the positive side of prisons through today’s event,” she said. The female politician said the ministry has made many efforts to prepare inmates for reintegration into society, conducting various food security programmes that benefit not only the inmates but also the public. “At least with the results from the food security programme here at Warungkiara Prison, it can be said that at least 50 per cent of the food supplies for inmates largely originate from each prison in Indonesia that has land,” she said. Dewi expressed hope that the ministry’s efforts in food security and social care are truly a manifestation of its commitment to maintaining the spirit of continuous transformation. She believes this innovation further strengthens the realisation of a modern and beneficial corrections system oriented towards rehabilitation. “This is in line with the ministry’s tagline: Imipas prime movement, extraordinary service,” Dewi concluded.
