House Commission XIII Approves Witness and Victim Protection Bill for Plenary Session

Indonesia’s House of Representatives Commission XIII held a working meeting with the government regarding the decision on the Bill concerning the Protection of Witnesses and Victims. Commission XIII of the House of Representatives and the government agreed that the bill should be brought to the plenary level for enactment as a law.

The meeting was held in the Commission XIII meeting room at the House of Representatives, Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday (13/4/2026). The meeting was directly chaired by the Chairman of Commission XIII of the House of Representatives, Willy Aditya. Meanwhile, the government was represented by Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights, Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej.

Initially, Willy invited each faction to provide their faction’s mini views. As a result, all factions of Commission XIII of the House of Representatives approved the bill being taken to the next level.

Subsequently, Deputy Minister Edward also delivered a statement on the Witness and Victim Protection Bill. He stated that the government approves the Witness and Victim Protection Bill being brought to the Plenary.

“On this happy day, the discussion of the Bill on the Protection of Witnesses and Victims can be completed in this level one discussion forum, and as we have heard together, every faction has given their opinions and has agreed to continue the Witness and Victim Protection Bill to level two discussions for decision-making in the plenary session of the House of Representatives. Ultimately, we, representing the President, approve and welcome with the highest appreciation the completion of the Witness and Victim Protection Bill at level one discussions to be continued to level two for decision-making in the plenary session of the House of Representatives,” said Edward during the meeting.

Willy then reaffirmed the agreement regarding the Witness and Victim Protection Bill being brought to the plenary session for approval. The meeting forum approved it.

“Do the factions and the government agree that we bring the Witness and Victim Protection Bill to level two?” asked Willy.

“Agreed,” replied the meeting forum.

Thus, this Witness and Victim Protection Bill will be brought to the nearest plenary session. Subsequently, a vote will be taken in the plenary session to enact the bill.
