House Commission XI: Fit and Proper Test for BI Governor Candidate Destry to Begin Next Week
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Commission XI of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) has announced that the fit and proper test for the sole candidate for Bank Indonesia (BI) governor, Destry Damayanti, will be conducted next week.
This was disclosed by Commission XI Chairman Mukhamad Misbakhun when met at the DPR on Tuesday (18/8/2026). According to Misbakhun, Commission XI will first hold an internal meeting before the fit and proper test begins.
“Next week (the fit and proper test), this week’s (internal meeting) is already finished,” said Misbakhun.
Previously, President Prabowo Subianto had sent a presidential letter to the DPR RI regarding the nomination of a definitive BI governor. In the letter, the President proposed one name, namely Destry Damayanti.
Prabowo also listed Aida S. Budiman as the sole candidate for Senior Deputy Governor of BI. Additionally, two names, Solikin M. Juhro and Anwar Bashori, were put forward as candidates for BI Deputy Governor.
Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) RI Puan Maharani confirmed that all names proposed by the government will be processed according to the mechanisms applicable in the DPR, including through the fit and proper test stage.
According to her, the deliberation process will only begin after the DPR enters its sitting period, which commenced on 14 August 2026.
“Because the opening of the sitting period is still on 14 August, after that we will process these names according to the mechanisms in the DPR,” said Puan.
She added that the deliberation and selection stages for the BI leadership candidates are scheduled to begin next week.
“Next week the mechanism process in the DPR will commence immediately,” she stated.
