Perry Warjiyo has resigned as Governor of Bank Indonesia. Commission XI of the House of Representatives hopes the transition to a new central bank governor will proceed smoothly. “I have not yet been informed of the reason for the Governor’s resignation,” said Commission XI Deputy Chairman Mohamad Hekal to reporters on Monday (27/7/2026). “The hope, of course, is that the process until the election of a definitive replacement governor runs smoothly.” The Gerindra Party politician stated that BI plays a strategic role in maintaining the stability of the rupiah. He expressed confidence that Senior Deputy Governor Destry Damayanti, who has been appointed as acting Governor of BI, can carry out this task. “BI’s role in maintaining exchange rate and rupiah stability must also be safeguarded. The appointment of Ibu Destry as acting Governor of BI is in accordance with the BI Law, and I am confident she is capable of carrying out this duty and reassuring all stakeholders that BI can perform its tasks well,” he said. He noted that the law regulates the process for replacing the BI Governor, stating that President Prabowo Subianto will submit a candidate’s name to the House for a fit and proper test. “According to the law, the President proposes a replacement to the DPR for another fit and proper test,” he added. Commission XI Deputy Chairman Dolfie Othniel Frederic Palit also emphasised BI’s important role in maintaining the exchange rate. He expressed hope that the new BI Governor would uphold this role. “The central bank is always judged by its credible and consistent monetary policy in maintaining exchange rate stability. The BI Governor is expected to present a conducive role for BI in implementing monetary and macroprudential policies aligned with efforts to improve the quality of the national economy,” he said. Dolfie explained that the BI Law stipulates the President as the party proposing the BI Governor candidate for DPR approval. He said Commission XI has not yet received an assignment from the House Deliberative Body to conduct a fit and proper test. “As far as I know, Commission XI has not yet received an assignment from the Deliberative Body to conduct a fit and proper test. As long as a replacement has not been appointed, the Senior Deputy Governor carries out the Governor’s duties as acting Governor,” he stated. Previously, Perry Warjiyo stepped down from his position. His resignation letter was submitted to President Prabowo Subianto yesterday. “As of yesterday, we officially received a letter of resignation from the Governor of Bank Indonesia addressed to the President,” said Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi at the BI building in Central Jakarta on Monday (27/7).
