House Commission XI approves Destry as BI Governor and Aida as Senior Deputy Governor
Commission XI of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), through an internal meeting in Jakarta on Thursday afternoon, approved Destry Damayanti as the elected Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI) for the 2026-2031 period, as well as Aida S. Budiman as the elected Senior Deputy Governor (DGS) of BI for the 2026-2031 period.
As such, Destry definitively replaces Perry Warjiyo, who resigned from the position of BI Governor on 25 July 2026. Meanwhile, the Senior Deputy Governor position vacated by Destry now passes to Aida S. Budiman.
“The process of replacing the Governor, Senior Deputy Governor, and Deputy Governor has been carried out. And we have completed the tasks at the commission level,” said Commission XI Chairman Mukhamad Misbakhun at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta on Thursday.
In addition to approving the elected BI Governor and Senior Deputy Governor, Commission XI also endorsed Solikin M. Juhro as the elected Deputy Governor of BI for the 2026-2031 period.
Misbakhun said Commission XI will follow up on the results of this internal meeting decision to be presented and formalised at the DPR RI Plenary Session on 1 September 2026.
“We selected by consensus, and we will schedule them to be confirmed at the Plenary Session on 1 September 2026, which falls on a Tuesday,” said Misbakhun.
Commission XI had conducted fit and proper tests over two consecutive days. On Wednesday (26/8), the fit and proper test was carried out for the BI Governor candidate, Destry Damayanti, and the Senior Deputy Governor candidate, Aida S. Budiman. Both Destry and Aida were sole candidates for their respective positions based on a Presidential Letter (Surpres) to the DPR RI.
Subsequently, on Thursday (27/8) afternoon, the fit and proper test continued to select the BI Deputy Governor from two candidates proposed by the government to the DPR RI: Solikin M. Juhro and M. Anwar Bashori.
For context, Solikin M. Juhro currently serves as Head of the BI Macroprudential Policy Department since 16 June 2023. He has previously held several strategic positions within the central bank, including Head of the Economic and Monetary Policy Department (2022-2023), Head of the BI Institute Department (2018-2022), and Acting Head of the BI Institute Department (2016-2018).
